24.05.05 - And the winner is....
Mr Jamie Rowland of Kent has won the Phil Spector CD by a nose after becoming the quickest of several correct answers. I am impressed by the knowledge and/or google skills of all the participants. Thanks to you all.
Other news which may or may not interest you:
1. Garyballboy has returned from the USA so we can get back to work (hooray!).
2. I have been working hard to try and get my computer files organised so I can use some live on stage on Thursday. I am excited about this, but also think it may be a disaster waiting to happen so be nice to me if it all goes wrong. The show will, of course, still go on, but it may have to be electronica-free if my computer nightmare comes to pass. There will also be a number of new songs played if I can memorise them in time.
3. Just some time to mention the lovely Dolly Mixture club at Stereo in Glasgow which is on one Friday each month. Next one is in June so keep your eyes peeled. It is run by Swedish girls and plays music mainly by girls, but for everyone and they have a band playing each night too. I was there last Friday to see St. Judes Infirmary who were excellent.
4. And just a quick mention of my new iPod. It is green and lovely and I could eat it.
Hope you are all well and that some of you will be along on Thursday.
Love and more love

13.05.05 - Star Wars and What You Can Win Today
hello all
in honour of the upcoming new star wars episode we have posted up a home recorded version of an old song called 'lightsaber' which we have played live loads of times, but never recorded. not sure i should really be honouring the star wars film though because the last two were pish, but if nothing else then it's a topical time to have the song out. it's also the song that i played a long long time ago at a songwriters' open mic night just before some guy called Darius came out and sang one of the most appalling songs i've ever had the misfortune to hear. i think it might have been about butterflies.
thanks to johnny for the Phil Spector info. i have received my boxset and very brilliant it is too. i also received a copy of his christmas album which is first class, but which i already own so i have decided to give it away to one of you lucky, lucky people.
all you have to do is answer the following 2-part question.
a) Terri Nunn was the lead singer of which dodgy German soft rock band? b) Which part did she audition for in the original star wars movie?
First person to email me the answer and there address will receive my copy of Phil Spector's Christmas Album.
Christmas presents in June are the new Easter Eggs.
Have a great weekend.

09.05.05 - An update for you
Hello all
Just a few words about what is going on and what is coming up.
1. As it says in the listings I am playing at the Edinburgh Rush Festival on the 26th of May. This will be a full length solo set and will hopefully be the first full set that I play using a computer as well as an acoustic guitar. This is dependent on many things, but mainly whether I can get the computer to do what I want in the time I have left. If you are around and about in Edinburgh or nearby then it would be great to see you at the show. It is being organised by Mr Jim Igoe who is an Edinburgh underground hero, a fine musician and a good Hibby as well. He also informs me that he was both the 1000th and 2000th visitor to the old ballboy site (back in the days when they visitor counter still worked).
2. This week I am going to set about recording some songs at home which I will post up on the site as MP3's when they are finished. My aim for these is not to produce something comparable to a studio sound, but just to make them interesting.
3. Also on my to-do list is an essay I am writing for a book which has the following theme: "What Scottish People Like About England." I'll keep you updated on details as they progress.
And now I'm off to Amazon to buy a Phil Spector box set and I just realised that I don't know what happened with his court case. Did he get jailed? Released? Does anyone know?
Cheers
