29.07.05 - jane austen, the baltic sea och många fika
hello ballboy boys and girls,
firstly a big thanks to all of you who took the time to vote in the penguin competition. the results are out on monday and we will see what the ever-changing voting system produces!
also it will no doubt be a great pleasure to you all to know that i survived my dj-ing excursion without too many problems apart from a next day hangover. details of some of my set-list can be found here:
http://www.borntobewide.co.uk/
many thanks to Olaf and Martin for inviting me.
this week i have pretty much just been enjoying my holiday. i am aware that many people have to work during the summer, but fortunately i am not one of them so i have been in Sweden - reading Jane Austen, having lots of afternoon teas (or många fika as the Swedes have it - or probably don't as i am bound to have screwed up the Swedish somewhere there - mycket fika?), sailing and swimming (very briefly) in the Baltic sea. time should be made here to mention edinburgh's premier hat-wearing, bass-playing genius Mr Nick who took time out from his heavy drinking schedule to drive me all the way to Prestwick airport at 5.30 last Sunday morning after I mucked up my connections - much respect - even Elvis didn't have it so good.
of course all the while i have been mentally preparing for the upcoming ballboy shows in london and edinburgh which i am looking forward to immensely. i think the set in london may be shorter than we are used to so i might have to dispense with talking pish and just play the songs which should be a novel experience at least.
other than that my time has been spent writing new songs, playing premiership volley and preparing the photos for the merchandise page of this site which will be up soon. i have a vague notion that at some point in the future the combined might of the ballboy site should be thrown behind some obscure team in premiership volley to help raise them to new heights. any suggestions for the chosen team most welcome. anyone who doesn't know what i'm talking about should visit the links page.
until next time
love and hugs

14.07.05 - hang the dj
hello all
and commiserations to all of you who voted in the steve lamacq rebel playlist poll for ballboy only to see us cruelly beaten 48% to 46% due to a last minute, clearly offside, handballed..er...vote.
but thanks to all of you who took the time.
and i know that you must be wondering how to console yourself in the event of this cruel defeat and it just so happens that i have the very thing (well two of the very things actually).
firstly you can, of course continue to vote for my effort in the penguin remixed contest at:
http://www.penguinremixed.co.uk/site/rmx_main.php
the competition is hotting up and i was doing quite well the last i looked, but it's an up and down kind of thing. you might also want to take a listen to the looper track which is excellent. my tune is called 'goodbye feet'. i wanted to call it 'now i'm opening out', but they only give you 16 characters for your song name.
and if you wanna do more than vote. if you are stirred by action and would rather get up on the dancefloor and act real sexy (which i think is a st. etienne lyric) then you can shuffle along to hear me DJ at Born to Be Wide next Thursday (21st July). of course by DJ i mean stand behind the decks looking completely mystified and hoping that nothing goes wrong.
BORN TO BE WIDE THURSDAYS FORTNIGHTLY 9PM-1AM 'THE STREET', ON THE CORNER OF PICARDY PLACE & BROUGHTON STREET EDINBURGH
admission is free and drinks are cheap so come along if you can.
that's about all my news - sorry for the lack of new downloads. they are on the way i promise.
have a great weekend.

08.07.05 - Vote for Us! Vote for Us! Vote for me! Vote for me!
if you want to.
you can vote here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/steve_lamacq
to have us played on Steve Lamacq's show next week (thanks to jacqs for the heads-up on the messageboard).
also you can head over to the Penguin remixed site
http://www.penguinremixed.co.uk/site/rmx_intro.php
and hear my entry to their audiobook/music competition and give it a rating. the song is entered under the name gordonballboy and it's called "Goodbye Feet". You can also download a copy of the song from our download page for your own personal listening pleasure.
check the links page too for a new bundle of stuff to click on.
a quick apology for the slow roll out of the single, but hopefully things are moving now and it should be appearing on the listed sites over the course of the next week.
remember too that the t-shirt competition is open-ended. summer is here so get yer t-shirts on and get snappin'. for those of you who don't own a t-shirt Rachel and I have plans to have pictures and purchases available on the site very soon so all your sartorial worries will be solved.
i have been looking through dusty boxes today to try and find an original demo copy of 'i hate scotland' and so far i have failed, but i'm sure there is one in my house somewhere - so i'll get it up on the site as soon as i locate it.
finally just want to say to any londoners that we all hope you are all safe and well after today's events.
lots of love
gordon x

01.07.05 - One wedding, one show and a barcode f-up
hello all
Firstly this week I have a report to you all from the wedding of Miss Katie Griffiths who was married to the lucky Mr Lynden Potter last Saturday. A lovely day was had by all in sunny Ponteland and the bride looked very beautiful as I'm sure you can imagine. Congratulations to the bride and groom from all the ballboys.
Secondly just a reminder that the ballboys are back in the saddle for a show on Saturday. For your delectation we have been working hard on a setlist, but I'm not going to reveal it here because that will spoil all the suspense for ya.
And some news on the single. Apparantly there was a mistake with the barcode or something, but it has all been sorted now. We are just waiting for word that the tracks have been uploaded and then I'll let you all know and you can go wild with your plastic. Or something.
And a piece of random trivia to end with - just pressed shuffle on my ipod and here are the first 5 songs it gave me:
Open all night - Bruce Springsteen Narc - Interpol Sunday Sun - Beck First Thing - Four Tet Rear Moth - Psapp
I'm not sure if this is relevant or interesting, but, as trivia, i'm not sure it has to be!
Hopefully see some of you at the weekend. If you are in Edinburgh and smashing windows then make sure they are McDonalds and not mine.
Cheers
g x
ps - much holiday time coming my way so expect to see more links and downloads added before next weekend.
