04.09.05 - the ghosts of new orleans

when we were in new orleans we fell in love with it. we had played about 4 weeks of a five week tour and we had played 9 shows without a day off before we had 3 days of leisure time in new orleans. i remember thinking that it would be a great place to buy a guitar because there were so many musicians in the city that i would probably find a good second hand bargain and with a bit of luck it would come with a story attached. and so i walked for miles on a really hot day trying to find this second hand instrument store that i had been told about. eventually after about an hour and a half i found it - and it was rubbish. it had nothing of any interest whatsoever and i was really disappointed.

but as i walked back i thought that maybe new orleans was a place where people didn't sell their guitars - maybe everybody kept their guitars no matter what. maybe it was like your lightsaber or those little homonculus things in phillip pullman books - you had it and you learned it and you kept it and you loved it. and if you ever got rid of it you passed it on to someone who would do the same.

anyway - this is all by the way of saying that our thoughts are with the people of one of the finest cities we've ever had the pleasure of visiting. and by way of a gesture we have posted an acoustic version of the ghosts of new orleans on the downloads page.

cheers.
